With Lupercia, and Farhad Farzali
Join Farhad Farzali on a captivating auditory voyage into the heart of Meykhana, Azerbaijan's pulsating underground music scene. This show delves deep into the evolution of Meykhana, from its unplugged, folklore roots echoing with male vocals and rhythmic table tapping, to its transformation into a formidable underground force during the Soviet era. Experience how this unique genre, once confined to cassettes, surged to the forefront of both pop and underground music.
In the 90s and early 2000s, Meykhana began to morph, embracing electronic beats and intertwining with Iranian pop influences and the rhythmic intricacies of six-over-eight time signatures. Fast forward to the 2010s and 2020s, and witness Meykhana's emergence as a super-genre, amalgamating hip-hop, dancehall, reggaeton, and hardstyle, all woven into its distinctive rhythm.
Today, Turbo-Meykhana is more than music; it's a cultural phenomenon amongst Azerbaijan's auto-hooligans, complete with tuned cars, tinted windows, and booming sound systems.
